Our programs for 2023!
Project h.e.r.
Our Vision & Mission.
H.E.R. stands for Healing, Empowerment, and Reclamation. It is a therapeutic writing program for girls and young women of color to increase the number of female authors of color to reclaim, write, and share their own cultural narratives to heal their communities.
What We Offer.
H.E.R. addresses the social, mental, and spiritual harm that is caused by mainstream storytelling which inaccurately depicts girls and young WOC, and often leans towards white narratives. It is redemptive for girls and young women to tell their own stories, thus making a deeper investment in themselves. OVO employs a 5-point transformation strategy (W.R.I.T.E.) that emphasizes gender, culture, role-modeling, creativity, and self-confidence.
Worth: Validate participants’ worth as women of color (WOC).
Reclamation: Reclaim their ethnic- and gender-specific narratives; combat negative stereotypes. Inspiration: Inspire and be inspired by other WOC through mentorship and leadership. Talent: Nurture natural talent and create beautiful pieces of written work. Empowerment: Empower WOC to be comfortable in their identity and confident in their craft. |
Who We Serve.
WFF focuses on young women of color (WOC), ages 14-18, that are strongly interested in creative writing.
